KamLAND concludes operation in preparation
for the upcoming KamLAND2 experiment

  • News

Since starting its data acquisition in January 2002, the KamLAND experiment has delivered breathtaking science that include a precision measurement of neutrino oscillations through detection of reactor antineutrinos and unique insight into the inner structure of astronomical objects through detection of neutrinos originating from the Earth and Sun. On August 27, 2024, the KamLAND data acquisition drew to a close with 22 years of observation history. Major detector upgrades have now started in preparation for the upcoming KamLAND2 experiment. KamLAND2 will have vastly improved performance thereby making new discoveries possible.
