"Neutrino, the poet among the elementary particles"

We would like to share with you some information about the documentary film in which the KamLAND experiment was also interviewed.

The Neutrino documentary shows the interaction between villagers in Mozumi and scientists working on neutrino experiments in the Kamioka mine under Mount Ikenoyama. The two Dutch filmmakers Jan van den Berg and Hannie van den Bergh follow the villagers as they go about their daily lives and record how they understand the neutrino. Japanese and international scientists come to the remote village to use the unique location to conduct their experiments. The filmmakers accompany a Dutch physicist as he arrives to do research on the KamLAND experiment and gives his scientific understanding of the neutrino. The film explores these different perspectives of the neutrino in a, what the filmmakers call, poetic-philosophical documentary while showing the beauty of the surrounding mountains.

Led by Tohoku University’s Research Center for Neutrino Science (RCNS), the KamLAND experiment is one of the experiments featured in the documentary.
