KLRS is a Java-based tool to simplify the process of getting a
terminal and a vnc viewer connected from your off-site machine to the
DAQ machines in the mine.
Most of KLRS is platform-independent, but
where there is a difference, this page shows Windows screenshots. (See Linux version)
Note screenshots are from the original (July 2006, "v0") version of KLRS.
Minor differences with the current version may exist, particularly in
the "advanced options" panel.
Synopsis
Regardless of platform, you simply point your
browser to the KLRS home page, click the link, and enter a bunch of
passwords. In some cases, you might need to change some settings,
e.g., your user name on bert, or your vnc viewer application name.
KLRS will remember your previous settings.
Step 0
Start at any KLRS web page.
Currently the only KLRS web pages are at
http://neutrino.phys.ksu.edu/~KamLAND/KLRS
,
but KLRS web pages will be placed on www.awa.tohoku.ac.jp and
www.kamioka.awa.tohoku.ac.jp.
Step 1
Click the indicated link, and choose "open with (Java...)" if so
prompted.
Step 2
Even though you already entered the KamLAND web page password to get
the KLRS web page, Java needs the web page password again to load the
signed Java code. Sorry about that...
Step 3
Here is the KLRS applet. (If you have trouble getting here, read the
suggestions the KLRS web page.)
Step 4
Click the button.
You will get a putty terminal on Windows, or an xterm on all other
systems.
The terminal will log into bert using the username from the "username"
field in the applet, then automatically proceed to log into shift on
rosita. Enter appropriate passwords.

Step 5
The button becomes enabled
as soon as you start the terminal.
Press it only after you have successfully logged into rosita.
Step 6
Enter the vnc password. (See help in KLRS applet if you forget.)
Step 7
Voila!
