 The Neutrino exists extraordinarily a lot in space comparing other elementary particles composing a matter, and plays an important role for establishing the Grand Unified Theory of elementary particle and for the understanding about the history of the universe. The Research Center for Neutrino Science (RCNS) try to determine the outstanding issues of the front-line area such as the elementary particle physics, astrophysics, neutrino geophysics and neutrino solar physics through the characteristic study of neutrino, the observation utilizing a neutrino and the study of the rare phenomenon, then, we intend to search the truth of the universe.

 The neutrino has high permeability and is difficult to catch. It means, it is difficult for us to research the details of the character. Therefore, we, RCNS constructed the experimental detector “KamLAND”, stores 1000 tons of liquid scintillator which emits light when it has caught neutrino, at the location 1000 meters below ground in the Kamioka Mine in Hida city, Gihu prefecture in order to observe this rare neutrino phenomenon. The “KamLAND” means the “Kamioka Liquid-scintillator Anti-Neutrino Detector”. The KamLAND can research precisely the phenomenon called the “neutrino oscillation” that is caused by the neutrino coming from a nuclear reactor. Also, by use of neutrino, our detector provides the experimental research tool for researching the inside of astral body such as the earth & the sun and the experimental environment in the ultra-low radioactivity.

 The RCNS will promote the research at KamLAND, also, we will keep leading to develop the neutrino research associated with the domestic and overseas neutrino experiments aggressively. At same time, we will work together with the department of Physics closely, then, will keep to contribute for the general elementary particle research and the progress of physics.
